Abiodun orders Saje-Elega-Adedotun road rebuild, work to start next week
- Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed that the Saje-Elega-Adedotun Road in Abeokuta South be rebuilt, with work expected to begin next week.
- He gave the order at an APC stakeholders' meeting in Ake, Abeokuta, where he also announced a party reconciliation committee.
- The governor restated plans for boreholes, transformers and solar streetlights in communities across the state.
Residents of the Saje-Elega-Adedotun area in Abeokuta South can expect construction crews soon. Governor Dapo Abiodun has directed that the road be rebuilt, and according to his announcement, work should start next week.
He gave the instruction on Tuesday at a gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) ward and local government executives at Centenary Hall in Ake, Abeokuta. The governor said the project fits into his administration's push to improve infrastructure and give the Ogun State capital a cleaner, more modern look.
For people who use that stretch daily, the promise is a practical one: smoother movement to work, market and school, and less wear on vehicles. The sources did not say what the road will cost, how long it will take, or which contractor will handle it.
Party unity and grassroots plans
At the same meeting, Abiodun said a reconciliation committee would be set up to settle lingering disagreements within the APC, especially in Abeokuta South. The state party chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, will lead it. Other members are Titi Oseni, a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and Hon. Nurudeen Olaleye.
The governor asked party members to welcome politicians who recently crossed over from opposition parties, saying inclusiveness would make the party stronger at the grassroots.
He also repeated his administration's commitment to community projects such as boreholes, electricity transformers and solar-powered streetlights. Local government chairmen, Community Development Associations (CDAs), traditional rulers and religious leaders, he said, should work with the government to identify the most urgent needs.
Later, at a separate meeting with party members in Abeokuta North held at Comprehensive School, Abeokuta, Abiodun thanked them for backing his administration since 2019. He credited unity among members for the APC's growing strength in the state and urged them to keep mobilising ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The road directive was first reported by The Nation and Daily Post, which carried near-identical accounts of the meetings.
What happens next
Nigerians in Abeokuta South will be watching for machines on the Saje-Elega-Adedotun Road next week. The reconciliation committee is also expected to be named and begin meeting, while the governor's office has not given a timeline for the boreholes, transformers and streetlights.
