Adeyanju predicts Tinubu will beat Atiku, win 25% in every state

The gist
  • Lawyer Deji Adeyanju says President Tinubu will defeat Atiku Abubakar in the 2027 presidential election.
  • He claims Tinubu will get at least 25 percent of votes in every state, including Adamawa and Kano.
  • Adeyanju says only a miracle in northern Nigeria could stop Tinubu.

A lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has said President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election and defeat his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar.

In a post on X on Friday, Adeyanju said the president would score at least 25 per cent of the votes in every state, including Adamawa, Anambra, Kano and Oyo. Adamawa is Atiku's home state.

He argued that no other candidate in the race could reach that spread across the country.

“Tinubu will get 25% votes in every state in Nigeria including Adamawa, Anambra, Kano and Oyo. No other candidate can pull such numbers," he wrote.

Adeyanju added that only a surprise result in northern Nigeria could stop the President, and that the region has what it takes to deliver one.

Who is running

The reports differ on the parties involved. Some sources describe Atiku as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while others name the African Democratic Congress and also refer to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Peter Obi. The parties' names could not be independently confirmed from these reports.

What the reports agree on is that Tinubu, Atiku and Peter Obi are expected to be on the ballot, alongside other candidates.

Campaigns have begun, and Atiku has been criticising the President's policies, starting with the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Also in the mix is Segun Sowunmi, who questioned Atiku's ability to speak for poor Nigerians. In an interview on Vanguard's Politics Hub, he said Atiku's years as vice president from 1999 to 2007 left him out of touch with ordinary people's struggles. He also took aim at Atiku's running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his long time in government.

Those are Sowunmi's opinions, not findings by any court or body.

What happens next

Adeyanju's post is a prediction, not a poll result. No survey figures were released to back the 25 per cent claim.

The election is set for January 16, 2027. Campaigns are already under way, and the parties are expected to keep trading claims about the economy and the cost of living as the vote draws closer.
