The gist
  • Afia Media has moved its first annual lecture and awards from 26 November 2026 to 25 May 2027.
  • The group says the extra months allow better planning and talks with partners and stakeholders.
  • The event, themed on trading ideas for development, focuses on Eastern Nigeria's growth.

Afia Media has pushed back the first edition of its annual lecture and awards. The South-East-focused media organisation said the event will now hold on 25 May 2027 instead of 26 November 2026.

The company said its management and the organising committee looked again at how preparations were going before taking the decision. It said the later date gives room for more planning, more talks with stakeholders and tighter coordination, so the event can match the ambition behind it.

The maiden edition carries the theme "Uwa Bu Ahia: Trading Ideas for Development." Afia Media describes it as a space for exchanging ideas, discussing policy and holding serious conversations about what Eastern Nigeria needs and where its opportunities lie.

What the event will look like

Two main parts are planned. The Afia Forum will host policy discussions on development in the region. The Afia Awards Gala will honour people and organisations doing notable work in key sectors.

Awards will be given in seven categories: Governance, Business Leadership, Technology and Innovation, Cultural Excellence, Diaspora Impact, Humanitarian and Civic Engagement, and Education.

Afia Media expects the gathering to draw policymakers, business leaders, academics, entrepreneurs, investors and cultural figures, among others. The plan is to talk about partnerships and practical ways to achieve lasting growth in the region.

The organisation said the initiative is meant to lift the profile of Eastern Nigeria, keep development issues in public view and give the region a lasting platform to recognise the people, ideas and institutions shaping its future.

Despite the change of date, Afia Media said it remains committed to the vision and goals of the lecture and awards. It thanked partners, stakeholders, intending participants and the public for their patience and support.

Details on the programme, speakers, nominations and how to take part will come later through Afia Media's official channels.

What happens next

Nigerians interested in the forum or the awards should watch Afia Media's official platforms for announcements on speakers and nominations. The maiden edition now holds on 25 May 2027.
