The gist
  • Activist Aisha Yesufu said on X that she suspects a plan to rig 2027 by postponing the vote by a week at short notice.
  • She argued that a sudden shift would force candidates who had spent their money to start spending again.
  • Yesufu urged opposition supporters to plan for every scenario but to avoid using the same tactics they oppose.

Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu don talk say she dey suspect say dem fit move the 2027 general elections by one week at very short notice, and say this one fit be part of plan to rig the vote.

She make the claim for one post on X on Sunday. Yesufu, wey Naija News describe as ADC chieftain, no name anybody for the post.

Her reasoning na about money and timing. Candidates usually dey spend heavy for the final stretch of campaign, she talk, and last-minute shift go leave dem short of funds and force dem to raise and spend again.

“You don spend all your money, and all spending wey you don do before go start afresh,” she write, according to Naija News.

Yesufu talk say politicians dey most exposed just before election, na why she believe say that window fit be target.

Wetin she ask supporters to do

She urge opposition politicians and their backers to prepare for every possible turn of events. But she also warn dem say make dem no copy the tactics wey dem dey fight against.

“If you dey fight evil, you must think evil but get the discipline not to do evil, otherwise you go become wetin you dey fight,” she talk.

Yesufu add say she always dey work through possible scenarios in advance so she fit plan response, and talk say she ready for wetin come.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dey set the election timetable, and any change to the dates go come from the commission.

Why e matter

Nigerians already dey carry heavy cost of campaigning and voting, from transport to fuel and lost work days. Sudden change of date go hit candidates, party agents and voters wey don arrange travel and time off.

Talk of rigging also matter because public confidence for the process often dey decide whether people go bother to vote at all.

Wetin happen next: Watch for any official statement from INEC on the 2027 timetable. Yesufu's warning likely to feed debate among opposition parties about how to guard the process.
