APC campaign council adds Betta Edu as women mobilisation deputy
- The APC presidential campaign council has restructured its mobilisation units ahead of 2027.
- Former humanitarian affairs minister Betta Edu is now deputy director for women mobilisation.
- The council also created a new directorate to handle rally setups and event management.
The All Progressives Congress presidential campaign council for 2027 has reshuffled some of its mobilisation teams and created a new directorate, according to a statement by the council's secretary, Hope Uzodinma.
The changes come after the council was recently inaugurated. The party said the aim is to tighten coordination and reach more voters, especially women and young people.
The most closely watched name on the new list is Betta Edu, the former minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management. She is now deputy director of the women mobilisation directorate. Edu had been left off an earlier list that was later reversed, and she now returns in a deputy role.
Who heads what
Dr Mary Aille Idele will lead the women mobilisation directorate, with Edu as her deputy and Imaan Suleman as secretary.
The youth mobilisation directorate now has Ayo Olawande as director and Dayo Israel as deputy.
The council also set up a Directorate of Stage Organisation and Management to handle rally setups and event logistics. Farouk Adamu Aliyu will head it, with Adejare Bello as co-director.
Uzodinma said the appointments reflect a push to build an inclusive campaign machine focused on women and young voters. He urged the new appointees to work closely with other directorates to deliver the party's election strategy.
Why it matters
Women and young people make up a large share of Nigeria's voting population, and both groups have been heavily courted in recent elections. How well each party organises them can shape turnout in tight races.
Edu's return keeps her in the public eye as the party builds its campaign team for the 2027 elections. Her new role is a party campaign position, not a government appointment.
