  • The APC formally opened its 2027 presidential campaign with a rally in Kaduna on Saturday.
  • Dr Musa Kwankwaso, a member of the party's presidential campaign council, said the North-West will vote massively for President Tinubu.
  • He said the turnout showed the region had settled on Tinubu and rejected claims the support was transactional.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) held the formal kick-off of its presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, and a member of its presidential campaign council used the event to say the North-West will give President Bola Tinubu a heavy vote in the 2027 election.

Dr Musa Kwankwaso said the size of the Kaduna crowd showed where the region stands. In his view, it settled whatever doubts remained about the North's position in the presidential race.

Kwankwaso said the North-West had made its choice clear, and that the choice was tied to what he called a better Nigeria and national unity.

He also said the Kaduna gathering carried a message for other parts of the country, asking them to rally behind the President for the sake of national progress.

What the rally means for voters

Kwankwaso said Tinubu's administration offers a chance to spread development more evenly and to share the country's resources fairly among the six geopolitical zones. He did not give details of specific projects or spending plans for the North-West.

He pushed back at the idea that the region's support for the President is a trade for favours. He said the North has a duty to keep its political word and stay united behind Tinubu as 2027 approaches.

He described Tinubu as the North's candidate and said the region would deliver him in 2027, adding that northerners are trustworthy people.

He asked Nigerians, especially political players in other zones, to see the growing support for Tinubu as a matter of national unity rather than narrow interest, and said the Kaduna turnout showed the North had made up its mind.

Saturday's event was the formal start of the APC's presidential campaign. For ordinary Nigerians, the coming months will bring more of these rallies, and with them promises on jobs, prices and public spending. Voters will have to weigh those promises against what they see in their own states before casting ballots in 2027.
