APC chieftain in Kogi West tells Karimi to accept court verdict on primary
- A former Karimi supporter, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, has withdrawn his backing for the senator.
- He says the Federal High Court judgment naming Sunday Bamidele Aro the primary winner should stand.
- Ibrahim denies the party needs Karimi to win Kogi West and rejects talk of a move to the ADC.
A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure in Lokoja, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, has asked Senator Sunday Karimi to accept the Federal High Court judgment that named Hon. Sunday Bamidele Aro as the party's genuine candidate for the Kogi West senatorial seat.
Ibrahim, who said he had backed Karimi in the past, made the call in a statement on Friday. He also said his support now goes to Aro.
The court had affirmed Aro as the winner of the APC primary held in May. According to Daily Post, the case moved from the Federal High Court in Lokoja to the Abuja division after Karimi sought the transfer.
Why it matters
Kogi West voters will choose a senator in the coming general elections, and a party that stays divided risks losing ground in the district. A settled candidate also means voters can tell who actually carries the APC ticket when they go to the polls.
Ibrahim said the ruling reflected the wishes of the people and the decision of the party, and that the party's interest should come before any individual's.
