A group of northern elders for di All Progressives Congress (APC) say eight members of di Zamfara State House of Assembly don come back to di ruling party, and dem dey give credit to President Bola Tinubu and di Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
Di Northern Elders of the APC Forum talk for one statement on Tuesday say di lawmakers return after talks wey Matawalle, a former Zamfara governor, lead. According to Tribune, di minister later present dem to di President after dem restate dia loyalty to am and to di party.
Di forum chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar, say di President backing for dialogue help bring di members back. He describe Tinubu role as fatherly and say e show him commitment to hold di party together even with di demands of running di country.
"We equally commend di Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, for him dedication, energy and efforts towards reconciling aggrieved members," Abubakar talk.
Why e matter
Zamfara na one of di North-West states wey APC dey work to settle internal fights as politicians dey position demselves for di 2027 general elections. Di forum argue say winning back sitting lawmakers dey strengthen di party structure for di state and dey help am organise support for grassroots.
Matawalle govern Zamfara from 2019 to 2023 and still be strong figure for di region. Di elders say him involvement for di talks show di value of consultation and steady engagement to keep disagreements from splitting di party.
Still, di group warn say bringing back elected officials na only part of di job. For dia statement, dem ask party leaders to listen to members wey still feel aggrieved so dat di reconciliation no go stop with di eight lawmakers.
"Party unity must go beyond di return of elected officials; e must involve building trust and making sure say every stakeholder get sense of belonging," Abubakar talk.
Di forum appeal to stakeholders for di North, especially di North-West, to pursue genuine reconciliation and peaceful coexistence. E say a united APC go dey better position to campaign for Tinubu re-election in 2027 and to push for peace and development for di region.
Wetin go happen next
Whether di return go hold go depend on how di party handle di complaints of oda members for Zamfara and across di North-West. Di forum want dat work to continue well beyond dis week announcement.
