Baba-Ahmed calls Tinubu a failure, says north won't forget neglect
- PRP national chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said on Channels TV that President Tinubu's government has failed Nigerians.
- He said the President inherited a weak country but has not fixed insecurity, hunger or hardship in three and a half years.
- Baba-Ahmed warned that northerners will remember the humiliation and neglect they suffered when they vote in 2027.
The national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has described President Bola Tinubu's administration as a failure, saying Nigerians are worse off than they were in 2023.
Baba-Ahmed said this on Tuesday while appearing on Channels Television's Politics Today. He argued that although the President inherited a weak country, he has not used his time in office to fix it.
"He inherited a poor country; he inherited weak institutions; he inherited poverty and insecurity," Baba-Ahmed said. "We don't blame him, but he's been in power for three and a half years. He is a failure."
He said insecurity, hunger and hardship have worsened across the country since Tinubu took office in 2023, and that the President has not delivered on his promises to secure Nigerians and improve their living conditions.
Warning ahead of 2027
Baba-Ahmed also spoke about the north, saying northerners will not forget what he called the humiliation and neglect they have suffered under the current administration as the 2027 election approaches.
His comments add to the criticism the government has faced over the cost of living and security. For ordinary Nigerians, the debate matters because it touches on the prices they pay, the safety of their roads and communities, and the promises politicians are making ahead of the next election.
The Presidency has not responded to Baba-Ahmed's remarks in the reports reviewed. Under Nigerian law, criticism of a government's record is a political opinion, not an accusation of crime.
What happens next
Baba-Ahmed's party is not in power, and his remarks signal how opposition parties may frame the 2027 campaign. Expect more of this argument as parties position themselves, and watch whether the Presidency replies directly.
