The gist
  • Boston Legacy FC have presented Super Falcons striker Gift Monday as their new player.
  • She signed a five-year deal from Washington Spirit, reportedly for US$500,000 plus a sell-on clause.
  • Monday, 24, holds the NWSL record for the fastest hat-trick from kickoff.

Boston Legacy FC have officially unveiled Super Falcons forward Gift Monday, completing her move from fellow National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit.

The 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract and will wear the number 22 shirt at her new club. Boston Legacy announced the signing on October 6, and presented her to fans on Tuesday.

According to reports, Washington Spirit received a transfer fee of US$500,000, plus a 20 per cent sell-on clause. The sources did not give a naira equivalent for the fee.

Why it matters for Nigerian football

Monday is one of the Super Falcons' brightest attacking talents, and her move keeps a Nigerian name in one of the world's strongest women's leagues. For young players at home, it is another sign that the domestic route can lead abroad: she came through COD United Amazons, FC Robo and Bayelsa Queens before leaving Nigeria.

She joined Washington Spirit from Spanish side UD Tenerife in March 2025 and quickly became one of the league's top attackers. In September 2025 she scored a hat-trick against Houston Dash in 35 minutes and 52 seconds — the fastest hat-trick from kickoff in NWSL history.

Across all competitions for Washington Spirit, Monday recorded 12 goals and three assists in 48 appearances.

Both outlets reporting the unveiling carried the same details on her contract length, shirt number, transfer fee and record. Neither club has published the fee itself, so the US$500,000 figure remains a reported amount.

What happens next

Monday is now expected to settle into Boston Legacy's squad ahead of the new NWSL season. Her form at club level will also matter for the Super Falcons, who rely on her for goals in international windows.
