The gist
  • Eniola Badmus apologised on Instagram for her reaction when Laide Bakare's name came up on a podcast.
  • Bakare had earlier accused Badmus of trying to damage her reputation and said she gave her money early in her career.
  • Bakare dismissed the apology in two words: 'Fake apology'.

Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has publicly apologised to her colleague Laide Bakare over how she reacted when Bakare's name was mentioned during an interview on comedian Isbae U's Curiosity Made Me Asked podcast.

Badmus posted the apology on her Instagram page on Tuesday, after criticism online. She said her reaction "could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise."

Addressing Bakare directly, she wrote: "Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace and I genuinely wish you well. Joo maa binu (please don't be offended) no negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns."

She added that "sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward."

Bakare was not moved. In a brief Instagram response, she described the apology as a "fake apology", according to Legit.ng.

How the row started

Earlier on Tuesday, Bakare had called out Badmus in a rant on her Instagram page, accusing her of repeatedly trying to damage her character in public and saying she had warned her several times to stop.

In the same post, Bakare claimed she had helped Badmus grow in life and said she would not forgive her. She also said she would not let "someone else's insecurity" distract her.

In a separate interview with Oyinmomo TV, Bakare alleged that she gave Badmus money early in her career, at a time when, she said, people were unwilling to cast her because of her body size. "I use to give Eniola Badmus money very well when she was ugly and fat," she said, adding that she helped her with money "when nobody wanted to use her in their movies cos of her stature."

Those claims are Bakare's account. Badmus has not responded to them publicly.

The exchange drew mixed reactions from fans online. Some urged Bakare to accept the apology and move on, while others backed her stance.

What happens next

Neither actress has said whether they will meet privately to settle the matter. For now, the disagreement is playing out on Instagram, where both have large followings.
