Enugu Air gets approval for Lagos–London Gatwick flights from December

The gist
  • Enugu Air says it has approval to fly the Lagos–London Gatwick route, with Omni-Blu Aviation as designated operator.
  • Bookings are open and flights are due to start in December 2026, according to the airline.
  • The state says the route fits Governor Peter Mbah's plan to make Enugu a gateway for investment and tourism.

Enugu Air says it has secured approval to fly the Lagos–London Gatwick route, with Omni-Blu Aviation appointed as the designated operator under a partnership between the two companies.

The airline said bookings are now open and flights are scheduled to begin in December 2026. It did not say how many flights a week it plans to operate, what fares will be, or which aircraft will be used.

For travellers, the route would add another option on the busy Nigeria–UK corridor, where demand for business, study, family and holiday travel stays strong. More seats on the route can put pressure on fares, though the airline has not announced prices.

Enugu Air described the approval as a significant step in its expansion and said the route would strengthen air links between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and open opportunities for passengers and trade.

What it means for Enugu

The airline tied the milestone to the aviation agenda of Governor Peter Mbah, saying his administration wants to position Enugu as an emerging centre for international travel, investment and tourism.

The state has pushed aviation as part of a wider economic plan. A working international link through Lagos would let passengers connect to London Gatwick, one of the UK's main airports, without routing through another carrier.

Under the arrangement, Omni-Blu Aviation will run the service as the designated operator while Enugu Air builds its presence in the international market. The sources did not give details of the partnership terms or the length of the approval.

What happens next

Passengers can already book, according to the airline, with the first flights expected in December. Travellers should confirm schedules, baggage rules and refund terms directly with the operator before paying, since the airline has not published full route details.

The December start will be the first real test of whether the route can draw steady passenger numbers beyond the launch period.
