Teachers for primary and secondary schools across di Federal Capital Territory (FCT) go return to classrooms on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, afta di FCT Council of di Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) suspend im indefinite strike.
Di suspension dey inside one communiqué wey dem issue afta emergency State Executive Council meeting of di NLC FCT Council wey dem hold on Friday, October 16 for Labour House, Abuja, under di leadership of Comrade Stephen Knabayi. Our reporter get copy of di communiqué late Tuesday night.
Di strike, wey start on October 7, follow one seven-day ultimatum wey di NLC give di FCT Administration over promotion, career stagnation and redeployment of school directors. Teachers under di Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for di six area councils join di action.
Di union talk say di suspension follow talks wey involve di FCT Administration, di Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, di NUT and di NLC, wey produce documented resolutions.

On promotion, di NLC talk say vacancies for education officers go base on establishment positions wey di Education Secretariat declare. E note say plenty directorate staff dey expected to leave di service soon, wey go create room for officers to move up.
For di 2025 promotion examination, dem go notify di FCT Civil Service Commission about di Executive Council approval, and dem go announce new date so eligible candidates fit sit di exam.

Di NLC also assure workers say no employee go face victimisation or any kind of reprisal for taking part in di strike.
“All workers, particularly FCT teachers, are directed to resume work on Wednesday, October 21, 2026,” di communiqué talk. Di NLC FCT Council go set up monitoring committee to make sure dem implement di resolutions fully within di agreed timelines.
Di union warn say if dem fail to implement any of di resolutions, di strike go automatically resume without further notice.
