Free medical outreaches target millions of Nigerians across three states
- A foundation in Minna treated residents free at the Emir's palace, with 1,500 to 2,000 expected.
- Adamawa state and the NMA began a three-day free medical and surgical outreach in Lamurde.
- BATMEDICS plans free care for three million Nigerians and specialist surgery camps in eight hospitals.
Nigerians in several parts of the country are being offered free medical care this week, as separate groups hold outreaches aimed at people who cannot easily pay for consultations, tests or surgery.
In Minna, Niger State, the Karnati Foundation held a free medical outreach at the palace of the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umaru Faruk Bahago, in collaboration with Mohammed Jamuje, an APC candidate for the Niger State House of Assembly.
Residents were checked for blood pressure, saw doctors and received medication for their complaints. The foundation said it expected between 1,500 and 2,000 people to benefit, and that patients needing more care would be referred for further assessment.
One beneficiary, Hassan Abdul, said he had his blood pressure checked, was given a number and later saw a doctor. "After explaining it, I was given medication," he said, according to Channels TV.
Another resident, Mairo Muhammad, said she came after hearing free services were available and was happy to get attention for an eye problem. She said her blood pressure was recorded at 160, though the unit was not stated.
Musa Abubakar, chairman of the Karnati Foundation, said the group began giving relief materials and medical help during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since expanded into education, agriculture and food support. He said this was its seventh medical outreach in Minna and that it plans to reach other senatorial districts of Niger State.
Adamawa and a nationwide plan
In Adamawa State, the state government and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Adamawa chapter, are holding a three-day free medical and surgical outreach at Cottage Hospital, Lamurde, from November 5 to 7, 2026. It is part of the Fresh Air Initiative of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Residents are to receive free consultations, diagnostic tests, medication and surgical procedures.
Nationwide, BATMEDICS, a medical intervention initiative founded by Barrister Seyi Tinubu, said it plans to provide free healthcare to three million indigent Nigerians through medical outreaches. It also plans specialist surgical camps in eight tertiary hospitals, targeting 6,000 people who need complex procedures such as open-heart and renal surgeries.
The hospitals listed are the National Hospital, Abuja; University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu; Lagos University Teaching Hospital; Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital; Federal Medical Centre, Asaba; and University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City.
In a statement signed by its Director of Research, Media and Communication, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, BATMEDICS said the programme aims to reduce the financial burden of treatment on vulnerable households.
What happens next
The Adamawa outreach runs until November 7. BATMEDICS said details on its schedule, services, eligibility and how to access care will be shared on its official platforms.
