Hamzat to unveil Lagos governorship manifesto on October 30, APC says
- The APC says its Lagos governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, will present his 2027 manifesto on October 30.
- Campaign chief Musiliu Obanikoro said the plan is built on continuity, shared progress and inclusive development.
- The launch at the Wole Soyinka Centre in Iganmu will be broadcast live and the document posted online after.
Lagos residents will get their first full look at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate's plans on Friday, 30 October, when Dr Obafemi Hamzat presents his manifesto for the 2027 election.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, director-general of the President Bola Tinubu-Kadri Hamzat Campaign Council, announced the date on Sunday at a press conference at the campaign office in GRA, Ikeja.
The event will hold at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, in Iganmu, from 3pm to 5pm. Arrivals begin at 11am, and seating is limited, so entry is strictly by invitation.
For those who cannot attend, the proceedings will be shown live on Channels Television, ARISE TV, TVC, Lagos Television, News Central and the campaign's digital platforms. Obanikoro said the document will be available for download after the launch, and the campaign is inviting public comments on it.
What the campaign is promising
Obanikoro said the campaign is built on continuity, shared progress and inclusivity, with a promise to build on the achievements of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration while tackling the problems residents face.
He listed transport, housing, infrastructure, healthcare, security, environmental management and human capital development as the areas the manifesto will cover.
He argued that Lagos, with an estimated population of about 25 million and limited land, puts heavy pressure on these services, and that running the state needs experience and careful planning.
"Continuity is not about doing things the same way simply because they have been done before," Obanikoro said. He said it means keeping policies that work, fixing what needs improvement and finding new answers to new problems.
He pointed to the Blue and Red rail lines, road and bridge projects, improvements in schools and hospitals, housing schemes and support for businesses and young people as achievements the candidate would build on.
Obanikoro also said the campaign has met religious leaders, traditional rulers, market women, traders, young people, professionals and artisans across the state so that their concerns shape the plans.
He described Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor, as a three-time commissioner with a PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University and past work with international financial institutions in the United States.
The manifesto is expected to set out how the campaign would spread opportunities across genders, backgrounds and communities, with Obanikoro saying no community should be left behind.
What happens next
After the 30 October launch, the campaign says the full document will be online for residents to read and respond to. The 2027 governorship election itself is still more than a year away, and the APC's plans will face scrutiny from voters and rival parties alike.
