  • Gombe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says the state will mobilise for President Tinubu's re-election in 2027.
  • He spoke as the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement opened its Gombe chapter and handed over 26 campaign vehicles.
  • The governor credited federal projects in livestock, roads and energy for Gombe's support of the APC.

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has said the state will throw its political structures and grassroots networks behind President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, and behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) at every level.

He spoke on Tuesday in Gombe at the launch of the state chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a support group for the President. At the event, the movement handed over 26 campaign vehicles to help it reach communities across the state.

The governor said Gombe people back the President because of federal projects in the state, naming agriculture, livestock, roads, health and energy. He pointed to the Livestock and Agro-Development Zone and the ongoing Gombe-Biu Super Highway as examples.

He said President Tinubu approved ₦120 billion for the livestock project, which he said would raise farm output, strengthen the livestock trade, create jobs and lift the economy of Gombe and the wider North-East.

Vehicles from Tompolo's movement

The governor thanked the founder and Grand Patron of the movement, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, for donating the vehicles. He said the gift would strengthen the party's grassroots campaign.

Tompolo, who was represented by High Chief Kestin Pondi, said the vehicles would help the movement engage communities and spread awareness of the President's policies.

Pondi praised the governor's road programme, saying he was told at least 100 kilometres of roads are being built in each of the state's 11 local government areas.

"This is development. This is connectivity. This is the dividend of democracy," he said.

He added that if every governor performed like Gombe's, "performance would do the campaigning for us" during elections.

Gombe House of Assembly Speaker Mohammed Abubakar Luggerewo also commended the movement and stressed continued cooperation between the federal and state governments.

The movement's national coordinator, Sunday Adekanbi Asuku, urged Gombe residents to join its activities and build support for the President ahead of 2027. The state coordinator, Khalid Ahmed Kumo, thanked the governor for his support since the group began work in Gombe.

What happens next

The 2027 general election is still more than a year away, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not opened the formal campaign period. For now, the focus is on building support group structures and moving campaign materials into communities.

For ordinary residents, the promises that matter most are the ones tied to daily life: farm and livestock support, road links to markets, and jobs. Whether those projects translate into votes will be tested at the ballot.
