Kebbi lawmaker gives APC vehicles, motorcycles ahead of 2027
- Rep Bello Kaoje handed over vehicles and motorcycles to the Kebbi APC on Saturday.
- Punch reported 25 vehicles and 250 motorcycles; The Nation put the figures at 23 and 225.
- Governor Nasir Idris and party leaders urged members to avoid violence and back the party in 2027.
A federal lawmaker from Kebbi State has handed the state's All Progressives Congress (APC) a fleet of vehicles and motorcycles to help the party organise supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bello Kaoje, who represents the Bagudo/Suru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, presented the items to Governor Nasir Idris on Saturday. The Nation reported that the handover took place at the APC campaign office in Birnin Kebbi; Punch said only that it happened in the state.
The two reports on the event differ on the size of the donation. Punch said Kaoje gave 25 vehicles and 250 motorcycles. The Nation reported 23 vehicles and 225 motorcycles.
According to The Nation, 21 of the vehicles are meant for party coordinators in the state's 21 local government areas, while the motorcycles go to ward coordinators. One vehicle each was set aside for the APC state secretariat and Kaoje's zonal office.
Kaoje said the aim was to fix the transport and logistics problems that slow the party's work at the grassroots, and to help it win at every level in 2027.
Leaders call for peace
Governor Idris thanked the lawmaker and said his government would keep delivering on its promises. He asked party members to stay calm and patient as campaigning begins, and warned them not to be pulled away by opposition parties.
Senator Adamu Aliero, a former governor who now represents Kebbi Central, also spoke. He told APC members to keep away from violence, harassment, intimidation and abusive language, and to focus on peaceful mobilisation.
Aliero said the party is targeting 85 per cent of the votes in the state and wants to win every elective seat, up to the national level.
Ambassador Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, another former governor and director-general of the 2027 governorship campaign council, asked residents to stay loyal to the APC and vote for it in 2027.
The state party chairman, Abubakar Kana-Zuru, praised the donation, saying it would ease some of the logistics problems facing the party's mobilisation and campaign work. The Nation, which named the chairman as Abubakar Muhammad Kana, reported that he also urged other office holders to support the party's campaign.
Idris said the campaign council would be inaugurated on Sunday, after which campaign activities would formally start. He then flagged off the distribution of the vehicles and motorcycles to the local government and ward coordinators.
For ordinary Kebbi residents, the handover is an early sign that the 2027 race is already moving in the state, even though the election is still more than a year away.
