A 14-year-old Kenyan, Kanana Muthomi, has won the individual title at the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Abuja, closing with a 75 to finish on a 54-hole total of 229.
Muthomi opened with rounds of 77 and 77 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club before her final-day 75 sealed the crown. She finished six strokes clear of South Africa's Isabella Ferreira, who took second on 235.
The Kenyan moved ahead in the individual standings after the second round and held her lead through the last day, staying steady against some of the continent's strongest female golfers.
South Africa still on top as a team
South Africa kept its grip on the team event, with Kenya the closest challenger over the 54 holes. Tanzania came third, and Nigeria, playing at home, finished fourth.
Botswana, Uganda, Zambia, Tunisia, Zimbabwe and Ghana completed the standings. In the team format, three players represent each country and the best two scores in each round count towards the total.
Muthomi was Kenya's leading performer. Bianca Ngecu was sixth in the individual standings after the second round, and Kellie Gachaga made up the Kenyan trio.
For Nigeria, fourth place means the hosts leave their own championship without a podium finish.
The AACT brought together female golfers from more than 20 African countries. Organisers say the event is meant to build competition, friendship and the growth of women's golf across the continent.
Muthomi's win stands out because of her age, and marks her as one of the young players to watch in African women's golf.
