A Kogi State government official has been given a traditional title in his home town. Oladele John Nihi, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Youth and Student Matters, has been crowned Olúomo of Aiyegunle Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The honour recognises Nihi's ties to the community and his work in youth development and public service, according to reports of the coronation. Nihi is an indigene of Aiyegunle Gbede.
What the new title means
Nihi thanked the traditional institution, community leaders and residents for finding him worthy of the title. He said the honour was not just a personal milestone but also a fresh responsibility to serve his people with dedication and humility.
He stressed that traditional titles come with obligations, and promised to keep upholding integrity, unity, cultural preservation and service to humanity. He also spoke on the role traditional institutions play in promoting peace and strengthening community development.
According to Nihi, a community's progress depends on the commitment of its sons and daughters, both at home and abroad.
Praise for Ododo, and what comes next
Nihi used the occasion to commend Governor Ododo for what he called purposeful leadership, inclusive governance and commitment to the state's development. He said the governor's focus on service, grassroots development and bringing young people into governance continues to inspire confidence among young people. He reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, education, peaceful coexistence and programmes that create opportunities for young people. Nihi is a youth advocate and founder of the Oladele John Nihi Foundation, which the reports say focuses on peace and security, health, education and empowerment, especially for young people. In his government role, he engages student bodies, youth organisations and other stakeholders on issues affecting young people across Kogi. There was no word in the reports on when the coronation took place or who performed the ceremony. As Olúomo of Aiyegunle Gbede, Nihi said he would keep working for his people, for young people and for the preservation of his community's culture.
