The gist
  • Kun Khalifat host Inter Lagos in a matchday 10 NPFL game at Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday.
  • Defender Ebuka Okoro says the team will stick to their routine instead of feeling pressure.
  • The Owerri club are 17th with nine points from nine matches: two wins, three draws, four losses.

Kun Khalifat FC will not let the pressure of a tough start to their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season change how they prepare, defender Ebuka Okoro has said.

The Owerri club host Inter Lagos in a matchday 10 fixture at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Sunday.

So far this campaign, Kun Khalifat have won two, drawn three and lost four of their nine matches. That record leaves them 17th on the NPFL table with nine points.

Okoro said the players are treating each fixture on its own terms rather than looking too far ahead.

"For us as a team we're taking every game the way it comes, everything has its own step, that's what we'll do as a team, follow our routine in every match," he told the club's media.

He added that keeping to their normal preparations is how the team intend to reach their targets for the season.

Why Sunday matters

For supporters in Owerri, the game is a chance to see whether the club can turn a slow start around on home ground. A win over Inter Lagos would lift them up the table and ease some of the worry around the camp.

Kun Khalifat's form has been mixed rather than poor: three draws show they have been hard to beat on some days, while four defeats explain why they sit in the lower half of the standings.

Okoro's message suggests the dressing room is not panicking. Whether that calm holds once the whistle goes at Dan Anyiam Stadium is the question fans will be watching.

What happens next

After Sunday's match, Kun Khalifat continue their NPFL campaign with further fixtures, and the club's position will depend on how quickly they can add to their nine points.
