Lado says sixth Katsina governorship run will be his winning one
- PDP's Katsina governorship candidate Lado says he is confident of victory in 2027 after five failed bids.
- He spoke in Katsina while receiving a support group, the Katsina Frontier.
- Lado accused Governor Radda's APC administration of weak governance and poor handling of insecurity.
Senator Yakubu Lado Danmarke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor in Katsina State, says his sixth shot at the seat will succeed where five earlier ones failed.
Lado spoke in Katsina while receiving members of a group called the Katsina Frontier in Support of Senator Yakubu Lado for Governorship. He said his campaign was gathering strength, with people from other parties coming over to the PDP ahead of the 2027 election.
"I have contested five times under different political parties, but this time, I am confident of winning the election," he said, according to accounts of the event carried by Daily Trust and The Whistler.
He has run for governor five times on different party platforms without success.
Why it matters for Katsina residents
Katsina is among the states where bandit attacks and mass kidnappings have disrupted farming, schooling and travel in recent years. Lado argued that the state government has not done enough to protect residents, saying people are still being killed and abducted.
He also accused Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of running ministries and other government departments poorly. Those are his allegations; the state government has not responded in the reports available.
Lado said he wants the job to fix governance, not to enrich himself. He said he was not seeking office to build houses or marry more wives, but to change how the state is run.
He asked voters to remove the APC in 2027, calling the election a chance to change the state's direction. He promised the new supporters fair treatment and said he would work with them towards the party's goals.
What happens next
The coordinator of the Katsina Frontier, Ali Sani, said the group would take its campaign from house to house and urged residents to back all PDP candidates in 2027. He said the party would put people's welfare first if given power.
The 2027 general election is still more than a year away. For now, the contest in Katsina is shaping up as a fight between the APC and the PDP, with security likely to be a major issue.
