  • Lagelu LG chairman Kamorudeen Mudashiru donated a 500KVA transformer to Ifedapo Residents Association in Akobo, Oyo State.
  • APM's Oyo Central senatorial candidate Olufemi Ajadi and lawmaker Akintunde Olajide joined Saturday's commissioning.
  • Residents say the transformer should improve power supply for households and small businesses in the estate.

Residents of Ifedapo in Akobo, Oyo State, now have a new 500KVA electricity transformer, donated by the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Kamorudeen Mudashiru.

The transformer was handed to the Ifedapo Residents Association and commissioned on Saturday. The event was attended by Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, and Hon. Akintunde Olajide (AKT), who represents Lagelu State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

The donation was made under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, according to the reports.

Why it matters for residents

For many households and traders in the estate, steady power means fridges stay cold, phone-charging and tailoring businesses keep running, and children can study at night. A bigger transformer is meant to carry more load and reduce the strain that often leaves communities with low voltage or frequent outages.

Ajadi said reliable electricity supports household activities, small businesses and other aspects of community development. He thanked the council chairman for what he described as a practical response to the community's power needs, and called for continued cooperation between officials, community leaders and residents.

Mudashiru said the transformer was an intervention aimed at improving supply in Ifedapo, noting that reliable power matters to households, traders and others whose daily activities depend on it. He also stressed the need for cooperation to sustain grassroots development efforts.

A resident, Engr. Waheed Adeola, expressed appreciation to the chairman, Ajadi and other stakeholders, saying the transformer would help improve living conditions and support daily activities in the estate.

Politics at the commissioning

The event also had a political colouring. Hon. Jide Adeniran, an APM leader, urged residents to support the party's candidates in 2027. He named Governor Seyi Makinde as the party's presidential candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi as its Oyo State governorship candidate, and Ajadi as its Oyo Central senatorial candidate.

The reports did not say how much the transformer cost, when installation work was completed, or how many households it will serve.

What happens next: Residents will be watching whether the new transformer translates into steadier supply. The 2027 election campaigns, meanwhile, are already touching community events like this one.
