Lagos tells online shoppers to report vendors who deliver wrong items
- LASCOPA urged online shoppers in Lagos to complain when delivered goods differ from what they ordered.
- The agency gave a toll-free number and email for buyers to file complaints.
- It said consumers should not stay silent when sellers fail to keep their promises.
Lagos residents who buy goods online and receive something different from what they ordered are being urged to report the seller. The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) made the call in a consumer awareness message on Monday, October 26.
The agency said buyers should not keep quiet when delivered items do not match the description, differ from the order, or fall short of the quality promised by the seller.
"Goods or products you order online should be delivered as promised," LASCOPA said in the message posted on X. The agency added: "Speak up and take action."
LASCOPA asked affected buyers to register complaints with it against what it called unfair business practices by online sellers. Complaints can be filed on its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, or by email at lasgcopa@gmail.com.
The agency restated its commitment to protecting buyers, saying: "In Lagos State, consumers are kings."
Why it matters for shoppers
Online shopping is growing in Lagos, and many buyers depend on product descriptions, photos and sellers' claims before paying. When a wrong or substandard item arrives, getting a refund or replacement can be hard, especially if the vendor refuses to resolve the complaint.
Filing a complaint with LASCOPA gives a buyer a record of the dispute and a channel for possible investigation and redress, according to the agency. Both reports of the advisory carried the same helpline number and email address.
LASCOPA did not say in the message how many complaints it has received or what penalties sellers face. It also did not name any vendor.
What to do if it happens to you
- Keep your order details, receipts and photos of the item delivered.
- Contact the seller first and ask for a refund or replacement.
- If that fails, report to LASCOPA on 080 0005 2726 or lasgcopa@gmail.com.
The agency's advice is a reminder that buyers have rights, and that speaking up is the first step to getting a problem fixed.
