LASCOPA recovers ₦26.2m in refunds for Ikeja Electric customers
- Lagos consumer agency LASCOPA resolved 528 of 556 complaints against Ikeja Electric from January to September 2026.
- The agency secured ₦26,243,758.75 in refunds and credit adjustments for affected electricity customers.
- Officials urged residents with billing disputes to file complaints with bills and receipts rather than resort to self-help.
Lagos electricity customers who disputed their bills have received ₦26,243,758.75 in refunds and credit adjustments from Ikeja Electric, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) said on Thursday.
The money came from 556 complaints filed against the distribution company between January and September 2026. LASCOPA resolved 528 of them, leaving 28 still ongoing — a resolution rate of about 95 per cent.
The agency's General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, said the intervention was in line with its mandate under the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, as amended.
How the complaints are handled
Yusuf Musiliu, who heads LASCOPA's Complaints and Mediation Department, said complaints come in through online and offline channels and are reviewed before the agency brings Ikeja Electric officials and affected customers together.
That stakeholders' parley holds on the last Thursday of every month, giving residents a regular chance to raise unresolved disputes directly with the distribution company.
Musiliu urged aggrieved customers to use the formal process instead of self-help, and to attach electricity bills, payment receipts and other evidence so cases can be investigated and settled quickly.
LASCOPA said residents can report billing disputes, estimated billing, overbilling, supply problems and other alleged unfair practices through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, on weekdays, or by email at lasgcopa@gmail.com.
For the ordinary Lagos household, the figures show that a disputed bill does not have to be paid as charged. Complaints backed by receipts can lead to a refund or a credit adjustment on the account.
What happens next
The 28 unresolved cases are expected to come up at the monthly parley with Ikeja Electric, where customers and the company discuss grievances and try to reach agreement.
LASCOPA said it would keep pushing for fairness, transparency and better service delivery in the electricity distribution sector.
