Makinde's security aide Kabiru Salami resigns, latest exit from Oyo cabinet

The gist
  • Kabiru Salami resigned as Oyo governor's security coordination aide on October 20, 2026.
  • His letter thanked Seyi Makinde for the chance to serve and restated commitment to Oyo's peace.
  • The exit follows those of the chief of staff and due process office director-general.

Kabiru Salami has stepped down as Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Coordination, the latest in a run of departures from the Oyo State government.

Salami's resignation took effect immediately, according to a letter he dated October 20, 2026 and sent to the governor through the Chief of Staff. Both The Nation and Tribune reported the letter.

In it, Salami thanked Makinde for the chance to serve, calling the work an honour and a humbling responsibility. He said he remains committed to peace, security and progress in Oyo State despite leaving the post.

Neither report gave a reason for his decision.

Why it matters

Security coordination is a sensitive role in a state where residents look to government for safety. A change at that desk can affect how quickly the state responds to trouble and how well it works with police and other agencies.

For ordinary people in Ibadan and across Oyo, the bigger question is whether the reshuffle slows down decisions on security, jobs and services.

Salami's exit is not isolated. Segun Ogunwuyi left as Chief of Staff on October 12, 2026, and Tara Adefope stepped down as Director-General of the Oyo State Due Process Office.

Makinde has moved to fill the gaps. He named Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, known as Wolekanle, as the new Chief of Staff. Aderonke Adedayo now heads the Due Process Office while keeping her role as Senior Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies.

Tribune also reported that Salami's resignation follows that of Sheikh McNess. The reports did not give details of McNess's position or when he left.

What happens next

Makinde has not named a replacement for Salami. The governor's office has also not said whether more changes are coming.

For now, the security coordination desk is vacant, and residents will be watching to see who takes over and what it means for safety in the state.
