MC Oluomo says he has enrolled for English lessons after 'kundusi' mockery

  • NURTW president Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, says he is taking English classes to improve his spoken English.
  • He spoke in Yoruba at a rally backing President Bola Tinubu's re-election, telling actor Lege Miami neither of them is fluent.
  • He said his children in the US, a nurse, a doctor and an engineer, often speak for him at events.

The president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, says he has started taking English lessons to improve how he speaks the language.

He said this on Tuesday while addressing Nollywood actor Adams Kehinde, popularly called Lege Miami, and other people at a rally held in support of President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid.

Speaking in Yoruba, according to videos of the event circulating online, MC Oluomo said he and Lege Miami both struggle with spoken English, and that he had decided to enrol in classes to get better.

He also said that travelling to many countries over the years had not made him fluent.

What he said about his children

The union leader pointed to his children's careers in the United States as proof that he had invested well in their education. He said they include nurses, a doctor and an engineer, and that they speak English better than he does.

He added that when he finds it hard to express himself at an event, he sometimes hands the microphone to one of his children to speak for him.

"Neither of us speaks English fluently, so I am taking classes to improve," he said, according to accounts of the rally published by Punch, Vanguard and Naija News.

He also described himself as a citizen of the United States, saying that when immigration officials ask how long he plans to stay, he tells them the country is his home.

Why it is trending

This is not the first time MC Oluomo's English has drawn public attention. In April 2025, a video of him saying "kundusi" instead of "kudos" while praising union members in Abuja spread widely online and drew mockery.

At the time, he accepted that he was not highly educated and could struggle with English, but argued that fluency was not the measure of a person's success. He said he understood Yoruba even if English gave him trouble, and challenged critics to match his children's achievements.

Reactions to the new video have been critical. Some social media users questioned his claim of US citizenship, while others mocked the contrast between his political influence and his children's opportunities abroad.

The rally was organised to support Tinubu's re-election bid. MC Oluomo's remarks were a side moment at a political event, but they have travelled far beyond it online.
