NDC shifts campaign council inauguration to October 26 over Obi's overseas trip
- The Nigeria Democratic Congress has moved its National Campaign Council inauguration from October 20 to October 26, 2026.
- The party said its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has a very important engagement overseas.
- The NDC apologised for the change and urged supporters to stay focused on winning the elections.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has pushed back the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council by one week, saying its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will be away on an important engagement overseas.
The event was earlier fixed for Tuesday, October 20, 2026. It will now hold on Monday, October 26, 2026.
The party announced the change in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, issued on Monday.
According to the statement, the shift was caused by Obi's very tight schedule and the overseas trip. The party did not say which country he is travelling to or what the engagement is.
The NDC apologised to members and supporters for any inconvenience the new date may cause.
Why it matters
The campaign council is the team that will drive the party's presidential and general election campaigns. Delaying its take-off by a week slows the party's public push at a time when Nigerians are watching how the main parties organise ahead of the polls.
The NDC urged its members not to lose focus on the goal of securing victory for Obi and all its candidates in the forthcoming presidential and general election.
It also called for unity and sustained mobilisation, and restated its campaign message: "A New Nigeria is Possible!"
The party did not give details of the campaign council's membership or the programme for the October 26 event.
What happens next
All eyes will be on October 26, when the party is expected to formally present the team that will lead its campaign. Whether Obi attends in person, after the overseas engagement, is not yet clear from the party's statement.
