NIMC: download your NIN slip free on NINAuth app, no agent needed
- NIMC says Nigerians with a NIN can now get their official slip free on the NINAuth app.
- The process needs five steps, including a facial check, and no visit to an enrolment centre.
- NIMC says the downloaded slip is valid at banks and government offices.
Nigerians who already have a National Identification Number can now get their official slip on their phone at no cost, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) says.
The commission posted a short video on its X account on Wednesday showing how the NINAuth app works. The message to Nigerians: you do not need to queue at an enrolment centre or pay an agent to get the document.
How to get your slip
According to NIMC, the steps are:
- Install NINAuth from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Open the app on your phone.
- Tap "Do More with NINAuth".
- Pick "NIN Slip" from the list of services.
- Complete the facial check so the app can confirm you are the owner of the NIN.
Once the check is passed, a button appears to download the slip, which you can save on the phone.
"Once verified, click on 'Download NIN Slip' to generate and save the official NIMC-issued NIN slip into your mobile phone," the commission said.
NIMC described the service as quick and secure. "It is that simple, it is free, available, and a few taps away. Get yours today," it said.
Why it matters
The NIN slip is routinely requested for identity checks at banks, telecoms services and government offices, among other institutions. Paying touts or travelling to a centre costs money and time, so a free download from home is a real saving for many households.
NIMC says the slip saved from the app is the same official document it issues and is accepted wherever identity is checked.
The NINAuth platform was launched in October 2025 to let people decide who can see their personal data across government, banking, telecoms and education services. In June 2026, the commission said holders could pull their slips from the app free of charge.
A NIN is the 11-digit number given to Nigerians and legal residents after enrolment. Getting one still requires a visit to an NIMC centre for demographic details and biometrics, including fingerprints and a facial scan.
NIMC advised people to use only its official channels and not to hand personal details to unauthorised agents.
