NUC approves aviation management, aerospace engineering at Baze University
- Baze University, Abuja, can now run Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering degrees full-time.
- The National Universities Commission approved both programmes from the 2026/2027 session after a resource check.
- The approval comes as the university builds an aviation school on over 88 hectares in Bwari.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved two new undergraduate programmes at Baze University, Abuja: Aviation Management and Aerospace Engineering. Both will run full-time at the university's main campus from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval was conveyed in a letter dated October 16, 2026, signed by Dr Ayuba Mohammed, the NUC's Acting Director of Academic Planning. According to the commission, the decision followed a resource verification visit by a panel of experts to check the human and material resources available for the courses, and an inspection of the university's Aviation School. The NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, gave the final approval after considering the panel's report.
Aviation Management will sit in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, while Aerospace Engineering will be offered under the Faculty of Engineering.
Why it matters for students
For young Nigerians weighing up courses, the approval widens the list of specialised degrees available in Abuja. Aviation and aerospace are fields where Nigeria still sends people abroad for training, and where homegrown skills are in demand across airlines, airports and maintenance operations.
The two programmes are also expected to feed into the university's wider investment in aviation education. Baze is developing a dedicated Aviation School on a site of more than 88 hectares in Bwari, in the Federal Capital Territory. The project is said to be at an advanced stage.
The NUC letter covers the two degrees at the main campus only. The Bwari aviation school is a separate but complementary project, and the sources did not say when it will open or what it will offer.
What happens next
Students can expect admissions into both programmes to open for the 2026/2027 session, subject to the usual entry requirements. The university has not announced cut-off marks, fees or the number of places available.
Prospective applicants should confirm details directly with Baze University and check that the courses appear in the NUC's list of approved programmes before paying for any application.
