Odumeje says staged miracles are rising in Nigerian churches

The gist
  • Anambra cleric Odumeje said on a podcast that staged miracles are becoming too common in Nigerian churches.
  • He said that is why he turns down invitations to minister in other pastors' churches.
  • He named the late Prophet TB Joshua as his spiritual father and mentor.

The Anambra-based cleric Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, known to many Nigerians as Odumeje, has said staged miracles are becoming too common in Nigerian churches.

He made the claim on an episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, published on YouTube on 19 October 2026.

"Arrangees [staged miracles] in churches are becoming too much in Nigeria," Odumeje said. He said this is why he does not attend other clerics' churches as a guest minister, adding that he has turned down many invitations.

Odumeje is the general overseer of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry. He insisted the miracles in his own church are real and open to scrutiny.

"The miracles we do here, we see their faces. You can take their names and verify," he said.

TB Joshua named as mentor

During the interview, Odumeje was asked about his spiritual father. He named the late Prophet TB Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, without hesitation.

He said no one else in the world performs the kind of miracles he does except TB Joshua, whom he called his spiritual father and mentor. He said there is a spiritual connection between them, and that he still visits the Joshua home to pray with "Mommy".

Odumeje also said TB Joshua "finished his job very perfectly". Reflecting on the shortness of life, he said his own time is "already clocking".

He has spoken before about his past, saying he was paid to fight people's battles before he became a preacher.

What happens next

The podcast comments have already drawn attention online. Odumeje did not name any church or pastor he believes stages miracles, so his claim remains a general allegation rather than a specific accusation.

For many Nigerians, the debate matters because church is a big part of daily life, and worshippers give time and money to ministries they trust. The sources did not say whether any church body has responded to his comments.
