  • Victor Osimhen and Gift Orban both have nine goals in the Turkish Super Lig this season.
  • Osimhen scored in Galatasaray's 4-0 win at Konyaspor; Orban scored and assisted in Amedspor's 5-1 win over Eyupspor.
  • Mohamed Salah of Trabzonspor is one goal behind the Nigerian pair with eight.

Two Nigerian strikers are setting the pace in Turkey. Victor Osimhen and Gift Orban are level at the top of the Turkish Super Lig scoring chart with nine goals each, after both found the net over the weekend.

Osimhen scored for Galatasaray in their 4-0 away win over Konyaspor on Friday. Orban was just as busy on Sunday, scoring once and setting up another goal as Amedspor beat Eyupspor 5-1.

The two Nigeria internationals now share first place in the race for the league's Golden Boot, the award for the season's top scorer. Orban has a small edge in the tiebreak: he has four assists to Osimhen's three.

Why it matters for Nigerian fans

Nigerian supporters have grown used to watching their strikers shine abroad, and this season two of them are doing it in the same league. For the Super Eagles, having two forwards in this kind of form is a boost ahead of future international fixtures.

There is a familiar name close behind them too. Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, now at Trabzonspor, has eight goals and sits just one behind the Nigerian pair.

With the gap at the top so tight, every matchweek could change the standings. Osimhen and Orban will need to keep scoring to hold off Salah and the rest of the league's forwards.

What happens next

The Super Lig continues with the next round of fixtures, where both Nigerians will look to add to their tally. For now, the Golden Boot race is a straight fight between two compatriots, with one of Africa's biggest names chasing them down.
