Oyebanji swears in Ekiti SSG, chief of staff, names four new aides
- Ekiti governor Biodun Oyebanji has sworn in Prof Habibat Adubiaro as SSG and Oyeniyi Adebayo as chief of staff for his second term.
- He also approved four appointments covering power, roads, airport and transport, effective immediately.
- Oyebanji warned the reappointed officials he will be less tolerant of lapses this term.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has sworn in Prof Habibat Adubiaro as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Oyeniyi Adebayo as Chief of Staff, both returning for his second term.
The brief ceremony held on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the Governor's Office in Ado-Ekiti, according to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode.
Hours later, the governor approved four more appointments in what his office called key sectors: power, road infrastructure, airport and transport.
They are Philip Atere, Technical Advisor (Power Infrastructure); Tope Fatukasi, Technical Advisor (Road Infrastructure); Air Vice Marshal Sunday Makinde (retd), Technical Advisor (Airport); and Tajudeen Alingbolu, Director-General of the Ekiti State Transport Agency.
The statement said the appointments take immediate effect and were driven by the strategic importance of those agencies to the administration's development plans.
Why it matters to Ekiti residents
Power, roads, air travel and transport are the everyday concerns of residents and businesses in the state. Who runs those desks shapes how quickly projects move, from fixing bad roads to getting the airport and public transport working better.
At the swearing-in, Oyebanji said the SSG and Chief of Staff were his personal choices, unlike commissioners and special advisers, who can be nominated by stakeholders.
He said the two would face pressure in the coming weeks, multitasking to cover vacancies until a full cabinet is put together.
He warned them against getting too comfortable. "I will be less tolerant of lapses than I was in the first administration because you cannot claim inexperience again," he said.
He also reminded them that residents are the real employers. "Treat our people with courtesy; be compassionate, humble, fair and God-fearing," he said, adding that it was their votes that brought the government to office.
Speaking for the two, Adubiaro thanked the governor for the confidence in them and promised they would not take the reappointment for granted.
What happens next
The four new appointees start work immediately. The governor's office has not said when the full cabinet will be named, so the SSG and Chief of Staff are expected to carry extra administrative load in the meantime.
