Oyo budget commissioner Ayobami Ojo resigns from Makinde's cabinet

The gist
  • Ayobami Ojo has left his post as Oyo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, effective immediately.
  • In a letter to Governor Seyi Makinde, he gave no reason but thanked the governor for the chance to serve.
  • His exit adds to a run of departures from the Makinde administration in recent months.

Oyo State's Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ayobami Ojo, has left Governor Seyi Makinde's cabinet. His resignation took effect on Monday, 2 November 2026, the same day he wrote to the governor.

The letter was sent through the Secretary to the State Government. In it, Ojo referred to the appointment letter that brought him into the job on 22 June 2026, and said he was stepping down from that day.

He did not say why he was leaving. Instead, he thanked Makinde for the chance to serve, saying it had been an honour he did not take lightly to work for the state and its people.

Why it matters

The budget ministry sits at the centre of how Oyo raises and spends public money, from roads and schools to health centres. A change at the top can affect work on the state's spending plans.

Ojo is not the first to go. The governor's Executive Assistant on Security Coordination, Kabiru Salami, former Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, and Tara Adefope, who headed the Oyo State Due Process Office, had all resigned earlier.

The reports did not say whether the departures are connected.

What happens next

Ojo's exit leaves the budget docket open in Makinde's cabinet. Residents will be watching for two things: whether the state's budget work slows, and whether more officials follow Ojo out.
