The gist
  • Christian stakeholders in Oyo Central have declared support for APM's Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo in his 2027 Senate bid.
  • They say the backing extends to other APM candidates, including Seyi Makinde and Bimbo Adekanmbi.
  • Ajadi told the gathering he would represent Christians, Muslims and other faiths without bias.

Christian leaders in Oyo Central have thrown their weight behind Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the senatorial district, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced at a meeting between Ajadi and the stakeholders in Oyo Central. The group said its support covers other APM candidates in the state as well, including Seyi Makinde and Bimbo Adekanmbi.

Bishop Ademola Moradeyo, who chairs the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board (Christian Wing), said the stakeholders see the candidates as one political family. He said they would back the party's flag bearers together rather than pick and choose among them.

Why the church group is backing Ajadi

Pastor Johnson Olabode gave three reasons for the group's support: Ajadi's ties to the Christian community, the case for younger representation, and his record of activities. He described Ajadi as someone within the church family and a young candidate who could give the district the youthful voice it needs.

Ajadi, for his part, reminded the gathering of his early years in the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Agbara, Oluwatedo. He said he spent seven years there as a young man and took part in evangelism that carried the church's message to different communities.

I am going to represent all Christians, Muslims and members of other faiths without bias or misrepresentation,

he said.

After his remarks, Pastor Popoola Isaac Olusola prayed for the candidate, committing his ambition to God.

What happens next

The meeting is part of Ajadi's push to win over community and religious groups as he seeks the Oyo Central seat in the Senate. The stakeholders said they intend to campaign for the other APM candidates too, though the sources did not say how that support will be organised.

For voters in Oyo Central, the declaration signals that at least one bloc of church leaders has picked a side well before the 2027 elections. Whether that backing translates into votes will only be clear at the ballot.
