Senate stop bill to move Nasarawa polytechnic, ask sponsor to find new school

The Senate on Tuesday set aside one bill wey for move one Federal Polytechnic for Nasarawa State from Nasarawa West go Nasarawa Eggon for Nasarawa North. Dem ask the bill sponsor, Senator Envulu-Anza Danladi, make e come back with new proposal to create fresh polytechnic for Nasarawa Eggon.

The bill, the Federal Polytechnics Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 1065), come up for second reading during plenary. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, wey preside, advise Danladi make e withdraw am.

Why dem stop the bill

Danladi, wey represent Nasarawa North, argue say im district no get any federal tertiary institution. E talk say the polytechnic for Nasarawa West don upgrade to university, so im area no get one.

Akpabio talk say the plan as e write go cause problem. Because the polytechnic don turn university, moving am go mean say dem dey move the university itself. E warn say the community wey dey host the institution no go welcome that kind thing.

E talk say the bill no fit go for second reading as e be because na about relocation.

Akpabio ask Danladi make e leave the upgraded institution where e dey and bring separate bill to establish Federal Polytechnic for Nasarawa Eggon. E talk say the Senate go support that kind bill and e believe President Bola Tinubu go support am too, since the old polytechnic no longer exist as separate institution.

To explain im point, the Senate President compare am to primary school wey dem upgrade to secondary school. Once dem upgrade am, e talk say, the primary school no longer exist, so dem no fit carry am go another place.
