The gist
  • The US is offering up to $20 million for tips on Iran's nuclear programme, CENTCOM said.
  • The reward includes possible relocation and covers facilities, equipment and scientific personnel.
  • Trump says Iran's nuclear programme was destroyed, but also says Tehran wants a deal.

Di United States dey offer up to $20 million for information about Iran nuclear programme, di US military talk on Friday, even as President Donald Trump repeat say Tehran nuclear capabilities don destroy.

Di reward, wey US Central Command (CENTCOM) announce on X, come through di State Department Rewards for Justice programme, wey dem set up in 1984 to pay for tips wey dey protect American lives and interests.

According to di announcement, di money na for information on Iran nuclear programme, "including its facilities, equipment, and associated personnel, such as those in the scientific community." Di State Department also mention possible relocation for people wey come forward. E no talk exactly what kind of tip go earn di full $20 million.

Di State Department talk say Iran failure to comply with di International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on safeguards don cost di agency "continuity of knowledge" about Iran production and stock of key parts like centrifuges.

Why e matter beyond Iran

Di announcement land in di middle of war wey don already reach Nigerian shores in form of fuel prices. Di conflict, wey start with US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June 2025 and widen into bigger campaign on 28 February 2026, disrupt shipping for Strait of Hormuz and push up oil prices. Nigeria dey import most of im refined fuel, so any jump in crude prices dey show for filling stations and transport fares.

One question still dey hang over di reward. Trump don talk plenti times say US forces "obliterated" Iran nuclear programme. "If we didn't hit Iran, you wouldn't have Israel today," he talk on Friday night in West Palm Beach, Florida. But di reward offer suggest say Washington still believe say useful information dey to gather about Iran nuclear work.

IAEA report in 2025 say Iran dey enrich uranium to 60 per cent purity, small technical step from 90 per cent wey dem need for weapon. After di June 2025 strikes, Trump describe di sites as "completely and totally obliterated," but later assessments show say di programme don degrade rather than fully eliminate.

Trump also talk say Iran want end di fighting. "We're dealing with them now. They want to make a deal very badly," he talk. Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian talk on Tuesday say im government still dey try resolve di crisis through dialogue, and mediators don dey work to stop di fighting from restart.

Trump talk earlier in di week say he still get to "take care" of one or two targets, including Pickaxe Mountain in central Iran, one site wey dem suspect say na nuclear but Tehran deny.

Wetin go happen next

Washington talk say anybody wey get information suppose submit tip through di Rewards for Justice website. Whether di reward go produce anything, and whether talks between di sides go hold, go shape wetin Nigerians go pay for fuel in di coming weeks.
