Yusuf sends five commissioner nominees to Kano Assembly
- Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has forwarded five names to the state House of Assembly for screening as commissioners.
- Speaker Jibril Isma'ila Falgore read out the nominees at Wednesday's plenary sitting.
- No screening date or portfolios were announced.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has sent five names to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and possible appointment as commissioners, the Assembly heard on Wednesday.
The Speaker, Jibril Isma'ila Falgore, announced the nominees during plenary. They are Ibrahim Namadi Dala, Muktar Ishaq Yakasai, Sani Lawan Manunfashi, Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa and Idris Garba Mustapha.
The five are expected to appear before lawmakers for screening before any confirmation and posting to the state executive council. No date has been fixed for the exercise, and no portfolios have been named.
For ordinary Kano residents, the makeup of the cabinet matters. Commissioners run the ministries that handle schools, hospitals, roads, water and markets, and the people appointed decide how quickly those services reach households across the state.
What happens next
The Assembly is expected to set a screening date and invite the nominees to appear. After screening, lawmakers will decide whether to confirm them. If confirmed, the governor will assign portfolios and swear them in.
Until then, the five remain nominees, not commissioners. Residents waiting on the state's ministries should not expect changes in leadership or policy yet.
