  • The African Democratic Congress has shifted its Sokoto presidential campaign flag-off from October 31 to November 4, 2026.
  • The party's campaign council cited planning and coordination issues and apologised for the change.
  • The shift comes as the ADC alleges Sokoto State Government directed hotels to turn away its delegates.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has moved the flag-off of its presidential campaign in Sokoto State from Saturday, October 31, to Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

The party's Presidential Campaign Council in Sokoto announced the change in a statement on Wednesday. It said the new date was needed to sort out "planning and coordination considerations" so the event can hold successfully.

The Director-General of the ADC Campaign Council in Sokoto State, Bello Aliyu Goronyo, announced the postponement, according to Daily Trust. The council apologised to party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the public for any inconvenience, and thanked them for their patience and support.

It asked members to note the new date and said it was preparing to welcome political leaders, supporters and other guests.

Hotel allegation still unverified

The postponement comes amid an allegation by the ADC that the Sokoto State Government directed hotels in the state capital to deny accommodation to delegates expected at the flag-off.

The party said some delegates who had already booked rooms and checked in were asked to leave. It condemned the alleged directive as an attempt to frustrate its preparations.

The Sokoto State Government has not responded to the allegation in the reports reviewed. The claim has not been independently verified, and the campaign council did not directly link the postponement to it in its statement.

For ordinary Nigerians, the episode is a reminder that the race towards the 2027 general elections is already shaping up, with parties jostling for space and supporters in the states. Travel and accommodation for political events can also be affected when venues and hotels become part of the political fight.

What happens next

The ADC says its Sokoto flag-off will now hold on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The party is using the event to mobilise supporters and strengthen its presence in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

It remains to be seen whether the accommodation dispute is resolved before the new date, and whether the state government responds to the party's allegation.
