APC rally in Port Harcourt on Nov 7 to push Tinubu's Rivers record
- The All Progressives Congress holds a presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt on Saturday, November 7.
- Organisers say federal appointments and projects for Rivers will be the focus.
- The rally is at the 40,000-capacity Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
Port Harcourt will host a presidential campaign rally for President Bola Tinubu on Saturday, November 7, with organisers saying the event will showcase what Rivers State has gained from his administration.
The rally is billed for the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, which The Nation described as the state's biggest sporting ground with room for about 40,000 people. It is expected to draw party leaders, APC members and supporters from across Rivers.
Princewill Dike, an APC chieftain in the state and a member of the publicity and media committee of the Tinubu Campaign Organisation in Rivers, said the gathering would let the state's people take stock of federal appointments and projects credited to the administration.
Appointments and projects on the list
Dike named Rivers indigenes he said had been given federal roles. They include Ambassador Desmond Akawor, the state's representative on the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), whose appointment Tinubu approved in November 2023 and the Senate later confirmed.
He also listed Boma Iyaye, Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); Chief Tony Okocha, Rivers representative on the NDDC governing board; and Chief Victor Tombari Giadom, Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Educational Planning and Administration.
The sources differ on Senator Magnus Abe's post. Vanguard and The Sun said he chairs the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, while The Nation said he heads the board of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
According to Dike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said on October 24, 2026 that Rivers had secured at least 49 federal appointments under Tinubu, including directors-general, executive secretaries and heads of agencies. The Nation also quoted Dike citing Wike's own appointment as FCT minister as an example.
On infrastructure, Dike pointed to the 37.9-kilometre Bodo-Bonny Road, which was opened temporarily in December 2025 and gave Bonny Island a direct road link to the mainland. He said it ended the island's long reliance on boats and helicopters.
He also cited work on the East-West Road, especially the Eleme Junction-Port Harcourt-Ahoada and Eleme Junction-Onne Port stretches, and the 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which runs through nine states including Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
Other projects he mentioned were the NDDC's Kaa-Ataba Bridge between Khana and Andoni local government areas, the Bonny Ring Road and Bridges being built with Nigeria LNG Limited, and the Federal University of Environment and Technology at Koroma/Saakpenwa in Tai Local Government Area.
What happens next
Dike said the rally would give stakeholders a chance to discuss federal representation, infrastructure and the state's future, and to thank the President for what he called his goodwill towards Rivers.
"We are coming together to thank the President for his goodwill to Rivers State and assure him of Rivers votes," he said.
The Nation reported that organisers picked the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium after deciding the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia could not hold the crowd seen at a recent Rainbow Coalition event where that group unveiled its 2027 candidates.
