Oborevwori asks Delta voters for another term, says he is 'street smart'

The gist
  • Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori told a reception in Isoko that the state needs a leader with street credibility.
  • He urged residents to vote for him, President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.
  • Oborevwori said Delta is his only home, so he has reason to keep developing it.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has asked voters to give him another term in 2027, telling a crowd in Isoko that he understands everyday life in the state better than any rival.

Speaking at a reception held in his honour on Tuesday, the governor said the state needs a leader with street credibility to keep development going, and that he fits that description.

He argued that Delta is the only place he calls home, so he has a personal stake in seeing it improve. "I don't have a second home; the only home that I have is Delta State," he said.

Oborevwori also asked the people to back President Bola Tinubu and every candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta in the next general election.

What he promised

The governor said his administration has recorded progress in its first three years and asked residents to expect more. He described room for improvement as the largest room in the world, and said his government would keep building on what it has done so far with continued support from the people.

He told the gathering that he has the tools to campaign and work still to do, and urged them to turn their support into votes for him, the President and other APC candidates.

"Continue to trust us and pray for us," he said.

Why it matters

Governors across the country are already positioning for 2027, and Delta is one of the states where the ruling party hopes to hold its ground. For ordinary residents, the pitch is about who controls state spending on roads, schools, health centres and jobs in the coming years.

The event was reported by Daily Post, The Whistler and Naija News, which carried the same quotes from the Isoko reception. None of the reports named the exact date of the 2027 elections or gave details of new projects promised.

What happens next: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to release the full timetable for the 2027 general election. Until then, the governor's remarks amount to an early campaign message rather than a formal declaration.
