APC youth group City Boy Movement inaugurates ward executives in Lagos West 1
- The City Boy Movement, an APC youth group backing President Tinubu's re-election, inaugurated ward executives for Lagos West 1 in Ikeja.
- Leaders said the ceremony completes the group's structures from state to ward level across Lagos State.
- Speakers urged the new executives to mobilise voters, gather polling unit data and counter misinformation.
The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as the City Boy Movement inaugurated ward executives for Lagos West 1 on Thursday, saying the ceremony completes its structures from state level down to the wards across Lagos State.
The event held at Marcelina's Place in Ikeja drew youth leaders, council chairmen, lawmakers and party stakeholders from the 18 local governments and local council development areas (LCDAs) covered by Lagos West 1.
The movement was set up to push for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Its Lagos State Director-General and Kosofe Local Government chairman, Moyosore Ogunlewe, said the new executives now carry the group's message to the grassroots.
"Mobilise our youths to get their PVCs. We must deliver all our candidates,"
Ogunlewe said, referring to the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) used for elections. He also asked members to counter what he called fake news and misinformation, and warned that the group would not tolerate disloyalty or insubordination.
The Lagos West 1 Coordinator and Onigbongbo LCDA chairman, Moyosore Adebanjo, credited the Tinubu administration with the end of fuel queues and strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
"People have forgotten how they used to queue at fuel stations during festivities,”
he said. He also said council chairmen can now build roads and fund empowerment programmes because of the administration's support for local governments.
What the executives were asked to do
The movement's Lagos State Legal Adviser and lawmaker for Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2, Ladi Ajomale, listed projects he said the President has delivered, including work on the Third Mainland Bridge, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Badagry-Sokoto Road, and what he described as sanity in the exchange rate system.
He asked the ward executives to educate residents and ensure they vote for Tinubu in the 2027 election, which he put at January 16, 2027.
The Ejigbo LCDA chairman, Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo, said the movement has grown into a national empowerment platform and has an app that lists the President's activities. He urged support for all APC candidates and for Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the next governor of Lagos State.
The Deputy Zonal Coordinator for Lagos West, Oseni Olabode Ahmed, called the appointments a call to service and said Lagos West 1 produces the largest votes in the state.
The Lagos State Deputy Director-General and lawmaker for Ifako/Ijaiye Constituency 1, Temitope Adewale Adedeji, said the focus must move beyond rallies to organisation at polling unit level.
"We must have a representative in each polling unit,"
he said.
Other speakers included the Agege Local Government chairman, AbdulGaniyu Obasa; the Ojodu LCDA chairman, David Olusegun Odunmbaku; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industry, Training and Development, Adamson Ayinde. The State Coordinator, Sesi Whighan, closed the event by asking members to spread the movement's message in their communities.
What happens next
With ward executives now in place, the movement says its next task is to register supporters at polling unit level and campaign for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
