Bouncers stop Seyi Vodi at Zlatan Ibile's wedding over missing access tag

The gist
  • Video shows security turning back fashion designer Seyi Vodi at the entrance of Zlatan Ibile's traditional wedding in Lagos.
  • Guards asked him for an access tag before letting him in, and it is unclear whether he was later admitted.
  • Neither Vodi's team nor Zlatan's has commented, but many Nigerians online backed the bouncers.

Security at Zlatan Ibile's traditional wedding turned back celebrity fashion designer Seyi Vodi at the entrance on Saturday, 24 October 2026, after he could not show an access tag.

Videos of the moment spread quickly on X and Instagram. They show Vodi, founder of the Vodi Group, being stopped by bouncers who asked for his tag before he could go in.

It is not clear whether he was later allowed inside. Neither Vodi's camp nor Zlatan's team has said anything publicly about what happened.

The wedding, between the Afrobeats star and his bride Davita Lamai, drew a crowd of celebrities. Davido and 9ice were among the singers present, along with content creators Carter Efe and GehGeh and other public figures from inside and outside entertainment.

Zlatan came in a cream robe with a textured ivory coat, red beadwork at the shoulders and hem, coral beads, an ivory cap and a carved wooden staff. Davita wore red crystal beads in lattice patterns, a braided crown, layered coral necklaces, a sheer crimson veil and a black horsehair fly whisk.

Online, most people sided with the bouncers

The clip set off a debate, and many Nigerians praised the security team for doing its job rather than deferring to a famous face.

One user, @thatuglyblogger, wrote: "He is just doing his job biko." Another, @dmegy, said Vodi should have simply carried his card.

@Akintolu1 was blunter, saying a pass was needed and that people should not "form big man". @teegulf raised another angle, asking whether Zlatan had invited him at all, and blamed the event planner.

@therealdotun1 offered a softer reading, suggesting the guard may simply not have known him, while @Biggest_Pappy69 noted that security staff cannot know everybody and are only following orders.

Born Seyi Adekunle, Vodi is well known in Nigerian fashion circles for bespoke designs and a high-profile clientele through the Vodi Group.

For ordinary Nigerians, the episode is a small reminder of how strictly access is controlled at big society events, where hired guards answer to the couple and the planner, not to the guest's name.

What happens next

There is no word yet from either side. Until Vodi or Zlatan's representatives speak, questions about whether he was eventually let in, and whether he was on the guest list, remain unanswered.
