Tacha asks BBNaija organisers to pause show and rethink format
- Natacha Akide, known as Tacha, says Big Brother Naija should take a break and return with fresh ideas.
- She told Arise 360 that social media now competes with the show for viewers' attention.
- The 2019 housemate said a pause would also make Nigerians miss the programme.
Reality TV personality Natacha Akide, widely known as Tacha, has urged the organisers of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) to step back from the show for a while and return with a new plan.
She made the suggestion during an appearance on Arise 360, a programme on Arise News, according to reports by Vanguard and Naija News.
Tacha, who was a housemate in the 2019 "Pepper Dem" edition, said the show's earlier popularity came at a time when social media did not dominate how Nigerians spend their free time.
She argued that online platforms now pull attention away from television, and that the reality series needs to adapt to keep viewers interested.
Why she says a pause could help
According to her, a break would allow the organisers to design something that feels new to audiences.
"I think they need to take a break, restrategise and just come up with something," she said.
She pointed to the public attention that celebrity drama, such as the long-running dispute within the music duo P-Square, now attracts online. In her view, that kind of online conversation makes it harder for a house full of contestants to hold people's attention.
Tacha also said time away could work in the show's favour by making fans eager for its return.
"You also give Nigerians a chance to miss you," she said.
She added that the organisers would need to work hard on any new concept, describing Nigerians as a tough audience to satisfy.
Who is Tacha
Tacha became a household name on the 2019 season of BBNaija. She was disqualified after a physical altercation with fellow housemate Mercy Eke.
Since leaving the house, she has built a career across entertainment and fashion, hosted a radio show on Cool FM and launched Tacha FC in 2024.
BBNaija is one of Nigeria's most-watched reality programmes, and each season drives months of conversation on social media, where fans follow housemates, argue over evictions and turn contestants into brands.
Neither the show's organisers nor its broadcaster has responded publicly to her suggestion.
What happens next
There is no word yet on whether the organisers will act on the advice. For now, Tacha's comments add to a growing debate about whether the format still delivers the buzz it once did, or whether a rest and a rethink would serve it better.
