Carrick says he expects nothing after Man Utd's 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth
- Manchester United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, their eighth game without a win.
- Michael Carrick said he was not expecting anything when asked if he feared being sacked.
- United sit 16th in the Premier League with seven points from eight matches.
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick says he is not expecting any particular decision on his future, after his side lost 3-0 to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The defeat left United without a win in eight matches in all competitions. They sit 16th in the Premier League with seven points from eight games.
Bournemouth led 2-0 at half-time through Rayan and Marcus Tavernier. Evanilson added the third in the second half after an error by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
Asked after the match whether he expected to be sacked, Carrick said: "I am not expecting anything." He added that he would "always do what is best for the football club."
In a separate post-match comment, he said he understood the situation and was carrying on as normal.
Pressure had been building before kick-off
United came into the game after a 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League in midweek. Before Sunday, they had gone seven games in all competitions without a win.
Daily Post reported earlier on Sunday, citing the UK Guardian, that Carrick would be sacked if United failed to beat Bournemouth. That report was published before the match and framed the fixture as his last chance to keep the job.
Carrick took over permanently in the summer, after replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis in January. Reports have linked Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe with the role.
What happens next
United travel to Chelsea next Saturday. It is not yet clear whether Carrick will still be in charge for that game. The club has not announced any decision.
For United fans in Nigeria, who follow the club closely on TV and online, the wait is for word from the Old Trafford hierarchy on whether the coach stays.
