Ajayi plays full match as Hull City draw 1-1 with Brentford

The gist
  • Semi Ajayi played all 90 minutes for Hull City in their 1-1 Premier League draw with Brentford.
  • Oli McBey gave Hull the lead from the penalty spot in the 24th minute.
  • Dango Ouattara equalised for Brentford in the 63rd minute as both sides settled for a point.

Semi Ajayi played the full 90 minutes for Hull City on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford at the MKM Stadium in the Premier League.

Hull took the lead in the 24th minute through Oli McBurnie, who converted a penalty after Aaron Hickey was judged to have fouled Tim Iroegbunam in the box. It was McBurnie's first Premier League goal of the season.

Brentford levelled in the 63rd minute. Dango Ouattara struck from close range after Igor Thiago set him up, following a spell of pressure from the visitors.

Ajayi, the 32-year-old Nigerian defender, has scored once in seven league appearances for Hull this season.

What the point means for both sides

Hull stay 10th in the table with 10 points from 10 matches. Brentford move up one place from seventh to sixth.

For Hull, the draw stretches their run without a home league win to three matches, though they are still unbeaten at home this season. They have now gone six games without a win after winning their first two fixtures of the campaign.

According to Leadership, Hull created enough chances to take all three points. Mohamed Belloumi found only the side-netting, Mohamed-Ali Cho was denied by the foot of Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, and Joe Gelhardt sent a late effort wide.

Brentford remain unbeaten away from home but have drawn all four of their away matches, still waiting for a first away win. They had 14 attempts on Sunday but rarely troubled Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

The result is a small lift for Nigerian fans who follow Ajayi, one of the country's defenders playing regularly in England's top flight.

What happens next

Hull will look to turn improved performances into wins, while Brentford need to start converting away draws into victories if they are to close the four-point gap to the top four.
