The gist
  • Damilare Aladegbola, known as Dre, says his phone was stolen at Zlatan Ibile's wedding in Lagos on Saturday.
  • In Instagram posts, he offered money to anyone who returns it and blamed a pattern involving waiters.
  • The wedding of Zlatan and Davita Lamai drew Davido and other celebrities; the couple have not commented.

A phone that went missing at a celebrity wedding in Lagos has turned into a public appeal. Damilare Aladegbola, an aide to music star Davido who is known as Dre, says his phone was taken during Zlatan Ibile's wedding to Davita Lamai on Saturday, 24 October 2026.

In posts on his Instagram Stories on Monday, Dre asked whoever has the phone to bring it back and promised cash in return. "If na u carry my phone for Zlatan wedding, abeg return am, I go give you money please," he wrote in Pidgin.

He did not say what the phone cost or give any details about how it disappeared. Neither Zlatan nor Davita has commented publicly on the matter, and no arrest has been reported.

Waiters claim and online reaction

In a second post, Dre said he now suspects a pattern at parties, where waiters clearing plates may be using the moment to take phones from tables. He warned that he would no longer take it lightly if a waitress asks whether he is done eating so she can pack his plate.

That claim is his own suspicion. No one has been named or charged, and there is no confirmation that a waiter was involved.

Nigerians online reacted with a mix of amusement and frustration. Some asked how a phone could vanish at an event they described as invitation-only, with cameras and bouncers around. Others joked that he should simply use the reward money to buy a new phone.

The wedding itself was a big society event. Davido led the groomsmen, and videos of him spraying dollar bills on the couple circulated widely. Content creator OGB Recent also drew attention for arriving with bundles of naira and dollars to spray.

For ordinary Nigerians, the episode is a familiar one: phones and other valuables go missing at owambe parties, and guests often have little way of getting them back. Dre's public offer is one way of trying.

What happens next

There is no word yet on whether the phone has been found or whether anyone has come forward. Dre has not said he reported the matter to the police. Until then, the appeal stays on his Instagram page, with the cash offer still open.
