AY says payment dispute stopped Cardiff show, asks organisers for refunds
- Comedian Ayo Makun, known as AY, has apologised to fans after his Cardiff show did not go ahead as planned.
- He said unresolved payment commitments with organisers delayed the comedians' appearance until most of the audience had left.
- He wants the organisers and UK tour management to explain refunds for ticket holders.
Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, known to fans as AY, has said a disagreement over money stopped him and other comedians from performing at the Cardiff stop of his UK tour on Sunday.
The show, part of the "AY Live: Single and Not Searching" tour, was billed for Valegate Retail Park in Cardiff, Wales, on October 25, 2026. According to Vanguard, ticket holders waited for hours in confusion and many left without seeing any of the advertised acts. There were reports of tense exchanges and police at the venue.
In a statement posted on Instagram on Monday, AY said he and the other comedians travelled to Cardiff and got into the venue, but payment issues held up their appearance. By the time they reached the hall, he said, most of the audience had gone home.
He told fans they should not have been placed in the middle of a quarrel over money. "You deserved a properly organised show and timely information," he said in the statement.
What happens next
AY asked the organisers and the UK tour management to give ticket holders a clear answer, including how refunds will work. He said confirmed updates would come through his official channels and urged fans to watch a video he posted explaining his side before judging the incident.
As of the time of filing the report, the organisers had not publicly explained what went wrong at the Cardiff venue, and no refund plan had been announced.
For Nigerians at home, the episode is a reminder that buying tickets for shows abroad carries risk when promoters and artists fall out. Fans who paid are now waiting to hear whether they will get their money back.
