  • CAF upheld Ampem Darkoa's protest that extra time should have been played before penalties.
  • Edo Queens will travel to Cairo on Monday to finish the match on 29 October.
  • The winner qualifies for the CAF Women's Champions League.

Edo Queens will travel to Cairo to complete their WAFU B final against Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, after the club agreed to a ruling from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The remaining 30 minutes of extra time will be played on 29 October 2026 at a neutral venue in Egypt. The Nigerian side said its players and coaches will leave for Cairo on Monday, 26 October.

The match in Burkina Faso had ended 2-2 after 90 minutes. Edo Queens then won a penalty shootout 4-1 and were initially declared champions.

Ampem Darkoa protested, arguing that competition rules required 30 minutes of extra time first, with penalties only if the score stayed level. CAF's disciplinary and appeals bodies heard the case and sided with the Ghanaians.

Why it matters

The result decides which club represents the zone at the CAF Women's Champions League. For Edo Queens, that is a place among the continent's best women's teams, and a stage that brings exposure and revenue to the club and to Nigerian women's football.

In a statement issued by the club's media officer, Ojieva Ehiosunhe, Edo Queens said the appeal outcome was not what it wanted. After talks with its board, the Edo State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the club chose to settle the matter on the pitch rather than continue fighting it off it.

"Our mission remains unchanged: to fight, to win and to secure our place in the CAF Women's Champions League," the club said.

The club said it understood fans' frustration and shared their wish to see the tie decided by football. It also thanked the Edo State Government and the NFF for backing it through the appeal, and asked supporters to keep cheering the team on.

Edo Queens said the squad is focused and ready to represent Edo State and Nigeria with pride in Egypt.

What happens next

The teams play the outstanding half hour in Cairo on 29 October. If the score is still level after extra time, the tie will be decided by penalties. The winner takes the WAFU B slot in the CAF Women's Champions League.
