Eniola Badmus says backlash over Tinubu support won't move her
- Actress Eniola Badmus says criticism she gets online stems from her backing of President Tinubu.
- She spoke on comedian Isbae U's podcast, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
- Badmus said Nigerians are free to back any candidate they choose under democracy.
Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has said the attacks she faces on social media are tied to her open backing of President Bola Tinubu, and that she has no plans to change her position.
She made the point while appearing on Curiosity Made Me Ask, a podcast hosted by comedian Isbae U, according to reports by The Nation and PM News.
Badmus said the only reason people come at her is her support for the president, and that she has remained steadfast despite the negative reactions to her political stance.
She also said she does not begrudge anyone who supports a different candidate, describing that freedom as part of democracy.
“Everybody has the right to do whatever they want. It’s called democracy. Follow whoever you want to follow; I don’t criticise anyone for following whoever,” she said.
The actress was one of the well-known entertainers who campaigned publicly for Tinubu ahead of the 2023 general elections, and she has kept that loyalty visible since.
Why it matters
In Nigeria, celebrities who take a political side often become lightning rods online, with fans and critics reading their choices as statements about the country's direction.
Badmus's remarks add to a running conversation about whether public figures should keep their politics private, or whether they should be free to back whoever they like without being hounded for it.
Her position is simple: support is a personal choice, and criticism of another person's choice is not something she takes part in.
