The gist
  • Gift Orban scored and set up another as Amedspor beat Eyupspor 5-1 in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
  • The Nigerian now has nine goals and four assists in 10 games in all competitions this season.
  • Amedspor stay second, two points behind leaders Galatasaray, with their unbeaten run now at eight games.

Gift Orban found the net and set up a goal as Amedspor thrashed Eyupspor 5-1 in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward doubled the hosts' lead 10 minutes before half-time with a left-footed finish, after Ermal Krasniqi had opened the scoring in the 13th minute from a Rayan Lutin assist.

Three minutes before the break, Orban turned provider, setting up Samuel Ballet for Amedspor's third goal.

Ballet went on to complete his hat-trick, adding the fourth and fifth goals as the home side ran away with the match.

His afternoon ended badly, though: he was sent off in stoppage time for violent conduct.

Why it matters for Nigerian fans

Orban's form is the kind of thing Super Eagles supporters watch closely. The 24-year-old now has nine goals and four assists in 10 appearances across all competitions for Amedspor this season, according to the match reports.

For a Nigerian striker trying to stay in the national team conversation, that is a strong return — roughly a goal involvement in every game he has played.

The win keeps Amedspor second in the Turkish Super Lig table, two points behind leaders Galatasaray, and stretches their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Both outlets that reported the match gave the same scoreline, the same scorers and the same details of Orban's contribution.

What happens next

Amedspor will look to keep the pressure on Galatasaray at the top of the table, while Orban will hope to carry his scoring touch into his next outing.

The club will also have to plan without Ballet for their next match after his late red card.
